Exercises

Practice is an important aspect of the preparation process. Experience and data show that exercises are a practical, efficient, and cost-effective way for organizations to prepare for emergency response and recovery. Emergency exercises are worth the effort because they identify areas that are proficient and those that need improvement. Lessons learned from exercises can be used to revise operational plans and provide a basis for training to improve proficiency in executing those plans.

Generally speaking, an organization should start small when it comes to exercises. Ikanos Emergency Management recommends a workshop exercise where exercise controllers drive a decision making process in a series of “what-if” scenarios with the organization’s staff. After this exercise, the organization can begin to work toward small-scale functional and full-scale exercises at a later date.

Ikanos can assist in the development of an exercise program as well as with the execution of this program by designing, conducting and evaluating the exercises.
